KKR takes minority stake in Malaysian hospital operator Avisena
KKR (NYSE: KKR) has agreed to make a minority investment in Avisena Healthcare, a Malaysian private hospital operator based in Shah Alam, according to a press release from the companies.
The investment, made through funds managed by KKR, is intended to support expansion of multi-specialty services at Avisena's existing hospitals in Shah Alam and the development of new hospitals in the Klang Valley region.
Founded in 1996, Avisena operates two facilities — Avisena Specialist Hospital and Avisena Specialist Hospital 2 — with more than 250 licensed beds. The company plans to add over 300 beds through the expansion of Avisena Specialist Hospital Tower A and a new hospital in Cyberjaya, bringing total capacity to nearly 600 beds by 2029.
Elina Nadia Omar, Group Chief Executive Officer of Avisena Healthcare, said the partnership is intended to expand the company's clinical capabilities and reach more patients.
KKR states it has invested more than $20 billion across the global healthcare sector since 2004. Its Asia Pacific healthcare portfolio includes Medical Saigon Group in Vietnam and Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings in the Philippines, along with investments in India, Japan, and China.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.
