Teledyne Technologies (NYSE: TDY) announced that its Teledyne Qioptiq unit has received the first option exercise from the German Bundeswehr for PHOENIX-XR cooled thermal weapon sights, valued at more than $21 million.

The order is part of a previously announced framework agreement between Germany and Teledyne Qioptiq valued at up to $175 million. Upon completion of this tranche, Teledyne Qioptiq said it will have delivered more than 1,000 PHOENIX-XR units to the German Ministry of Defence.

The company described the award as the largest European procurement of cooled thermal weapon sights in its history. Deliveries under the option are scheduled to begin early next year, with completion aligned to the Bundeswehr's deployment timeline.

The PHOENIX-XR is a cooled Medium Wave Infrared clip-on thermal weapon sight designed for long-range precision engagement. The device is intended to provide Detection, Recognition and Identification capability for dismounted soldiers.

"This contract underscores our commitment to equipping today's soldiers with the most advanced and dependable optical capabilities available," said Peter White, Senior Vice President, Optical Systems and Managing Director of Teledyne Qioptiq.
