Vishay launches thin film chip resistors for high frequency use

Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new series of thin film chip resistors in 0402 and 0603 case sizes, built on an aluminum nitride substrate. The Vishay Sfernice CHEP series is designed for high frequency and power handling applications in standard surface-mount footprints.

The 0402 case size carries a standard power rating of 1.2 W, rising to 1.8 W when mounted per datasheet guidelines. The 0603 case size is rated at 1.8 W standard, increasing to 2.8 W under the same conditions. According to the company, competing products in the same class are often rated below 1 W.

In flip-chip configuration, the 0402 devices support frequencies up to 50 GHz, while wraparound active face-up mounting supports operation to 20 GHz. The 0603 case size supports frequencies up to 40 GHz.

The resistors offer a resistance range from 20 Ω to 120 Ω, tolerances down to ±1%, and a temperature coefficient of ±100 ppm/°C, with ±50 ppm/°C available on request. Operating temperature range is -55 °C to +155 °C. The devices are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

Vishay states the resistors are suited for telecom applications including LEO satellites, 5G and 6G networks, base station terminals, and RF infrastructure, as well as aerospace and defense uses such as phased array radar and drone systems.

Samples and production quantities are available, with a lead time of 16 weeks.
