Comscore adds sponsored chat ad measurement to AI intelligence tools

September 3, 2026 8:31 AM

Comscore (Nasdaq: SCOR) announced new capabilities within its AI Intelligence product to measure sponsored chat-based advertising on AI platforms, including ChatGPT, according to a press release dated Sept. 3, 2026.

The new offering allows brands and publishers to track paid placements appearing alongside AI chat responses and connect that visibility to downstream consumer behavior, such as follow-on site visits. The capability is now integrated into Comscore's monthly production pipeline for regular reporting.

Comscore's data from the travel category illustrates the pace of growth in sponsored AI placements. An analysis of hotel-related ChatGPT prompts found sponsored-ad presence rising from 6% in March 2026 to 14% in April and 24% in May.

Separate Comscore data shows ChatGPT accounted for approximately 69% of unique visitors among AI assistants in June 2026, based on its CustomIQ measurement product.

The measurement solution is built on data from an opt-in user panel that captures direct AI interactions and links them to broader digital behaviors. Reported data points include prompt and response pairs, cited domains, conversation identifiers, and event timestamps.

"As AI becomes a more significant part of the media mix, Comscore continues to deliver the kind of trusted, independent measurement that businesses have grown to rely on across other channels," said Smriti Sharma, Chief Technology and Analytics Officer at Comscore.

The product addresses questions around how often AI-generated responses replace direct site visits, how paid and organic brand visibility coexist within AI environments, and how competitor visibility compares across the same consumer prompts.
