Alaska Airlines is launching seasonal nonstop service between San Diego International Airport and Loreto, Mexico, beginning Dec. 19, 2026. The route marks the carrier's 50th nonstop destination from San Diego and will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays through April 28, 2027, aboard an Embraer E175 operated by SkyWest Airlines.

According to a company press release, Alaska Airlines claims it will be the only carrier offering nonstop service between San Diego and Loreto when flights begin. The airline also claims to offer more nonstop destinations from San Diego than any other airline.

The new route coincides with Alaska Airlines marking 40 years of service in San Diego. The airline launched its first San Diego flight on Dec. 1, 1986. As part of its anniversary, Alaska Airlines plans to open one of the largest airline lounges in San Diego in 2028.

To mark the anniversary, the airline is running a giveaway in which 40 winners will receive Atmos Rewards Gold status for 40 years, and one grand-prize winner will receive 1 million Atmos Rewards points.

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, both subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group (NYSE: ALK), currently offer nonstop service from San Diego to all four major Hawaiian Islands, as well as destinations across the U.S., Mexico, and Latin America.
