Google launches Gemini 3.8 Flash and a cybersecurity model variant
Google DeepMind has introduced two new artificial intelligence models: Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, according to a company statement dated September 2, 2026.
Gemini 3.8 Flash is priced at $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens, matching the introductory price of its predecessor, Gemini 3.7 Flash, which was released three weeks prior. Google describes 3.8 Flash as its primary general-purpose model, citing improvements in software engineering, agentic tasks, and multi-step reasoning. On the DeepSWE v1.1 benchmark, the model scored 54.9% on HLE-Verified.
Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber is a variant focused on cybersecurity applications, specifically vulnerability detection and automated patching. It is available only through Google's new Fairwind Program, which targets government authorities, critical infrastructure operators, and software maintainers. On the CWE-Bench patching benchmark, the model achieved a pass@1 score of 47.2%, compared to 47.8% for a leading frontier model, at what Google says is a lower cost.
Google said its Chrome Security team found that 3.8 Flash Cyber produced 2.6 times more correct patches to Chrome vulnerabilities than comparable commercial models. Security firm Wiz reported 7.5% to 9.7% higher recall on its internal penetration testing benchmark at 2.3 to 5.2 times lower cost compared to other models. Google's Cloud Vulnerability Research team used the model to identify a critical vulnerability in under two hours, a task that typically takes months.
Both models include safeguards against misuse in chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and cyber offense domains. Google noted the models showed improvement in prompt injection robustness as measured by the Gray Swan benchmark.
Gemini 3.8 Flash is accessible via the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Android Studio, and is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Enterprise access is available through Gemini Enterprise.
