Sensata launches R290 pressure and temperature sensor for EV systems
Sensata Technologies (NYSE: ST) announced the launch of its R290 Pressure + Temperature (P+T) Sensor, designed for automotive manufacturers using R290 (propane) refrigerant in electric vehicle thermal management systems.
The sensor combines pressure and temperature measurement in a single unit and is compatible with battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and other electrified platforms. It offers analog and LIN output options.
R290 refrigerant has a low global warming potential (GWP) and contains no per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), but its flammability requires precise monitoring and leakage control. Sensata states the sensor's design is optimized to minimize refrigerant loss over a vehicle's lifetime.

The product is intended for use in automotive air conditioning and heat pump systems. Sensata, headquartered in Swindon, United Kingdom, employs more than 16,000 people across 13 countries and serves the automotive, industrial, aerospace, defense, and commercial equipment markets.
