Optex Systems Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPXS), based in Richardson, Texas, announced it has been awarded a $0.4 million contract for infrared windows, marking the company's return to the infrared coatings market through its Applied Optics Center division.

According to a press release, the order comes from a prime contractor that has not previously been a customer of Optex. The company said that upon successful completion of this initial contract, follow-on orders for the program could reach $14.0 million annually beginning in the second calendar quarter of 2027.

Bill Bates, General Manager of Applied Optics Center, was quoted in the release: "We have invested over $4.5 million in capital to improve our infrared lens fabrication and coatings capability, and with the increase in defense spending for infrared surveillance and targeting systems, we are very excited to add these products to our portfolio."

Optex said its current order backlog now exceeds $26.5 million following the new award.
