Emergent BioSolutions gets $24M BARDA contract for anthrax vaccine
Emergent BioSolutions Inc. (NYSE: EBS) has received a contract modification valued at approximately $24 million from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to supply its CYFENDUS® anthrax vaccine, according to a company press release.
BARDA is part of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The contract covers the supply of CYFENDUS® (Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed, Adjuvanted) for anthrax preparedness efforts.
CYFENDUS® received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in July 2023 as a two-dose anthrax vaccine for post-exposure prophylaxis in individuals aged 18 through 65 when administered alongside recommended antibacterial drugs.
The award follows a separate delivery order Emergent announced earlier this year, valued at up to $21.5 million, to supply BioThrax® (Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed) to the U.S. Department of War.
A study published in NEJM Evidence by Tillman et al. examined the use of CYFENDUS® for post-exposure prophylaxis following anthrax exposures in Wyoming.
The CYFENDUS® contract is funded under Contract No. HHSO100201600030C with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
