CenterPoint Energy (NYSE: CNP) activated its Emergency Operations Center on Aug. 31 in preparation for potential impacts from weather system Invest 97L, which is forecast to bring heavy rainfall, localized flooding and gusty winds to Southeast Texas, including the Greater Houston area, starting Tuesday.

The company said it has deployed frontline personnel to inspect power lines and electric substations across the Greater Houston area, and is clearing vegetation from power lines ahead of anticipated high winds and precipitation. CenterPoint's meteorology team is monitoring forecast developments around the clock.

"We have activated our preparedness plans, and our crews and contractors stand ready to respond to any service impacts for our customers," said Jason Fabre, CenterPoint Energy's Vice President of Special Response and Distribution Operations and Incident Commander. "We are closely monitoring the weather models as conditions continue to evolve and urge our customers to stay alert in anticipation of quickly changing weather conditions."

CenterPoint said it is coordinating with local government officials and emergency management partners and is notifying customers via email, phone, text and social media. The company is also encouraging customers to enroll in its Power Alert Service to receive outage updates and estimated restoration times.

CenterPoint serves more than 7 million metered customers across Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas, and reported approximately $48.3 billion in assets as of June 30, 2026.
