Philips and Imricor launch MRI-guided cardiac intervention lab
Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG) and Imricor Medical Systems have jointly launched an interventional MR lab solution combining Philips' 1.5T MRI platform with Imricor's portfolio of MR-compatible systems and consumables for cardiac procedures.
The solution is designed to enable MR-guided cardiac catheter ablation procedures as an alternative to X-ray fluoroscopy, which exposes patients and clinical staff to ionizing radiation. The combined platform allows physicians to visualize cardiac anatomy, track catheters, perform electroanatomical mapping, assess lesion formation, and evaluate treatment response during procedures.
The first commercially available configuration includes Philips' Cardiac MR Suite with SmartHeart AI-powered cardiac planning alongside Imricor's NorthStar iMR mapping and guidance system, Advantage-MR EP Recorder/Stimulator, and Vision-MR family of electrophysiology catheters. The solution is built on Philips' BlueSeal helium-free MRI technology.
"Our ambition is not only to advance what clinicians can see with MRI, but also what they can do with it," said Ioannis Panagiotelis, Business Leader, Magnetic Resonance at Philips. "With this new iMR lab solution, enabled through our collaboration with Imricor, we're expanding the role of cardiac MRI from diagnosis into the treatment environment."
Steve Wedan, Founder and CEO of Imricor, said the collaboration brings a shared vision into practice, adding that pairing Philips' 1.5T MR platform with Imricor's interventional tools creates what the companies claim is the first high-performance iMR lab solution of its kind.
The solution is commercially available in CE-marked markets and, in some configurations, in the U.S. NorthStar and the Vision-MR Diagnostic Catheter are cleared for U.S. sale, while other Imricor products are not yet cleared or approved in the U.S. Further configurations are subject to additional regulatory clearances.
The iMR lab solution is being showcased at ESC Congress 2026 in Munich, according to a press release from the companies.
