Token appoints former HSBC CISO to its board of directors

Token, a biometric identity assurance company, has appointed Monique Shivanandan to its board of directors, according to a press release from the Rochester, N.Y.-based firm.

Shivanandan previously served as Group Chief Information Security Officer at HSBC, as well as the bank's Chief Data and Analytics Officer, where she built its AI governance model. She currently holds a board seat at Iridium Communications (Nasdaq: IRDM), serving on its audit and compensation committees, and chairs cybersecurity company Sepio Systems.

Her career spans more than 30 years at global institutions, including roles as Group Chief Information Officer at Chubb and Aviva, Group Chief Technology Officer and CISO at Capital One, and Chief Information Officer for the UK and Ireland at BT. She previously served on the boards of Network International and J.P. Morgan Securities plc.

The appointment coincides with Token's launch of its Token for AI Agent Gateways product, which the company says intercepts AI agent tool calls before execution and requires biometric approval from an authorized human for high-consequence actions.

"Every enterprise is asking the same question right now: how do we let agents act without letting them act unsupervised," said Kevin Surace, CEO of Token. "When an action moves money or changes access, the right human has to be physically present and approve it with a fingerprint."

Shivanandan said the product addresses a governance gap. "You cannot answer that with another model's opinion. Token for AI Agent Gateways puts a specific, verified human in the transaction path at the moment the consequence occurs, and it leaves an audit trail identifying that person."

Token was founded in 2014 and is backed by Grand Oaks Capital.
