Hertz Car Sales launches free 3-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty

August 25, 2026 5:20 PM

Hertz Car Sales has introduced a 3-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty at no additional cost on eligible used vehicles, the company announced. The program, called 100K Mile Protection, covers specified components of the engine, transmission/transaxle, and drive axle.

Eligible vehicles are generally defined as those five model years old or newer with fewer than 75,000 miles at the time of sale. Coverage runs for up to 36 months or until the vehicle reaches 100,000 total odometer miles, whichever comes first. A $100 deductible applies per covered repair visit, and the warranty is non-transferable.

For certain covered mechanical breakdowns, customers may also qualify for rental car reimbursement, towing reimbursement, and travel breakdown reimbursement, subject to terms and eligibility requirements.

According to research commissioned by Hertz Car Sales, 79% of buyers said maintenance costs are an important factor when purchasing a vehicle. The average age of vehicles on U.S. roads has reached 12.8 years, according to industry data, while AAA estimates the average annual cost of owning and operating a vehicle exceeds $11,500.

Hertz Car Sales noted that many eligible vehicles may still carry remaining manufacturer warranty coverage in addition to the new offering. The company's inventory consists primarily of single-owner vehicles typically one year old or newer, available through its retail network and Rent2Buy program.

"Consumers are keeping vehicles longer and placing greater importance on reliability, protection and long-term value," said Jeff Adams, Executive Vice President of Hertz Car Sales.

The warranty is available on eligible vehicles across Hertz Car Sales' nationwide retail network and online platform.
