Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW) announced a strategic investment in phased array antenna technology aimed at expanding space-based communication capabilities for military and other customers, according to a company press release.

The investment will fund development and production of antenna systems designed to operate across low Earth orbit, medium Earth orbit, and geostationary orbit. The systems are intended to support dynamic beam steering, link reliability, and increased data throughput.

Redwire's RF Systems group, based in Longmont, Colorado, supplies radio frequency tactical communications and sensing payloads to aerospace and defense contractors. The company states it has delivered more than 200 flight antennas to date.

The company said its existing antenna products are already in use on the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture military satellite network. In 2023, those antennas enabled what Redwire described as the first U.S. military Link-16 communications transmitted from space. Redwire also has advanced RF payloads in production for a European defense contractor.

The investment follows a capital upgrade of Redwire's RF flight electronics assembly facilities. Mike Sharkey, Senior Vice President of Redwire Defense Tech, RF Systems, said, "Space data networks are evolving at an unprecedented pace, and phased arrays are a foundational technology enabling that transformation."
