Investing.com -- Apple Inc. is eliminating jobs across teams working on the Siri digital assistant and Vision Pro headset as the company shifts its focus toward new devices and artificial intelligence, Bloomberg reported Friday.

The cuts affect more than 200 employees, with approximately 100 positions removed from the Vision Pro division and another 100 from Siri and software teams. Apple is also reducing staff in its Intelligent Systems Experience group, a team within the software engineering organization that handles some AI features on its devices.

The company is largely closing down a Vision Pro team that focused on gaming for the headset and reducing the size of a unit that produces immersive video content for the device.

Apple confirmed the changes in a statement to Bloomberg, saying it was realigning teams "to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users."

"While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles," the company said. "We are grateful to these team members for their contributions, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles at Apple."

The Siri job cuts relate to a forthcoming AI-powered version of the assistant built on new technical architecture. This transition requires different expertise, leading Apple to eliminate some roles while creating new positions to support the updated Siri.

Changes to the Intelligent Systems Experience team represent a reorganization of work on AI-powered capabilities. As more groups develop AI functions for apps, features and services, Apple is restructuring teams to match priorities and speed up development.

The Vision Pro adjustments were presented to employees as a realignment of priorities based on customer usage patterns and to redirect resources toward other future products. The headset launched in February 2024 at a current price of $3,699.

Apple told employees that the Vision Pro and its visionOS operating system will continue. In the near term, the company is focused on launching smart glasses that would not support immersive video or advanced gaming. Apple is still considering a new Vision Pro model for release as early as the end of 2028, Bloomberg News had previously reported.
