BofA tracks building products sales momentum in second quarter
Investing.com -- Bank of America released its building products tracker for the second quarter of 2026, showing relatively stable sales at home improvement retailers compared to the first quarter.
Home Depot reported comparable sales growth of 1.7% year-over-year in the second quarter and maintained its fiscal 2026 comparable sales guidance of flat to 2% growth. Lowe's posted comparable sales growth of 0.2% year-over-year but lowered its fiscal 2026 comparable sales guidance to flat from a previous range of flat to 2% growth.
Siding sales increased at a high single-digit rate year-over-year in the second quarter, driven by pricing and the anniversary of destocking in the second quarter of 2025. Insulation sales turned positive, driven by U.S. non-residential and European markets. Flooring sales increased at a low single-digit rate on higher volume and positive price mix.
Paint and composite decking sales also grew at a low single-digit pace, supported by positive sell-through trends.
Plumbing sales turned negative year-over-year, driven by lower volume. Doors and windows continued to decline, though at a slower pace than previous periods. Cabinets declined at a mid-single-digit rate, while appliances continued to decline at a low single-digit pace.
Seven of 12 categories posted positive year-over-year growth in the second quarter. Home Depot reported positive comparable sales in 13 of 16 categories and Lowe's in 9 of 13 categories, driven by higher average tickets. Both home center retailers noted that professional customer sales continue to outperform do-it-yourself customer sales.
