Anthropic wants to match or beat SpaceX’s record IPO size - report

August 20, 2026 2:16 PM

Investing.com -- Anthropic PBC plans to match or exceed the size of SpaceX’s record-breaking initial public offering, Bloomberg reported on Thurdsay citing people familiar with the matter. The artificial intelligence company is advancing preparations for its stock market debut.

The developer of Claude AI is analyzing financial projections as it prepares to file publicly for its IPO as soon as the end of this month, the report said. Chief Financial Officer Krishna Rao led recent investor briefings but avoided discussing valuation details.

SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, raised $75 billion in its initial offering, making it the largest first-time share sale on record. The total reached $86.2 billion after exercising the overallotment option.

The five-year-old company raised $65 billion in May at a $965 billion valuation, exceeding rival OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation from March when the ChatGPT maker raised $122 billion.

Anthropic posted positive adjusted operating income for the second quarter but recorded a net loss of almost $42 billion in 2025, up from about $8.3 billion in 2024.

The company reported preliminary second quarter revenue of more than $11.5 billion, compared to $787 million in the same period in 2025. Its run rate reached $65 billion by the end of July.

Anthropic is positioned to go public before OpenAI, which is now targeting a 2027 listing. Both companies have filed confidentially for their listings.

Before its public filing, Anthropic is finalizing a revolving credit facility that will exceed its roughly $10 billion target, the report added.

Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are working with Anthropic on the IPO. Additional banks may join the arrangement.
