The performance reflected continued benefits from World Cup-related travel and America250 celebrations, Barclays said. The Economy segment also showed positive trends, with revenue per available room accelerating to 3.6% from 3.1% in June.

Transient revenue per available room increased 11% year-over-year, consistent with June, while Group revenue per available room accelerated to 14% from 10% in June.

Europe remained healthy at 5% growth in euros. The Asia Pacific region accelerated to 4% from 2% in June, driven by strength in India at 18% and improving trends in Japan at 6%, partially offset by weakness in China at negative 3% versus negative 1% in June.

The Middle East and Africa region improved, declining just 4% year-over-year after dropping 26% in June.

For individual companies, Barclays' U.S. revenue per available room tracker showed July year-over-year growth of 9.5%, 7.9%, 10.9%, 5.8%, and 5.2% for MAR, HLT, H, CHH, and WH, respectively.

For weekday travel, July occupancy grew 2% year-over-year for both the U.S. overall and Upper Upscale segment, softer than June's 3% and 4% growth. Midweek average daily rates moderated to 4% and 5% year-over-year for the U.S. overall and Upper Upscale segment, compared to June's 7% growth in both segments.
