Thomson Reuters (Nasdaq/TSX: TRI) announced the general availability of the next generation of CoCounsel Legal, an AI platform designed for legal professionals, according to a company statement released Aug. 20, 2026.

The updated platform, built on Anthropic's Claude Agent SDK, combines legal research, drafting, document review, and citation verification within a single workflow. It is grounded in Thomson Reuters' Westlaw and Practical Law content libraries.

A key new addition is Westlaw Brief Builder, which allows litigators to move from legal research and issue analysis to first-draft brief creation, using Westlaw Deep Research, KeyCite, and Practical Law to propose relevant facts, arguments, and supporting authority.

Other new capabilities include Workspaces, a matter-centric environment that preserves context across teams; a Drafting Agent integrated into Microsoft Word; Tabular Analysis, which can process up to 10,000 documents with up to 100 questions; and Deep Research Verify, which checks whether cited authority supports specific legal assertions.

Thomson Reuters also announced an expanded integration with Anthropic, including a CoCounsel Legal MCP connection with Claude launching in August. A forthcoming MCP connection with AWS is planned to extend the platform into Amazon Quick. Beginning in October, an integration with Reveal will allow litigation teams to import reviewed evidence directly into CoCounsel Legal.

The platform is currently available in the United States. Availability in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia is expected later in 2026. Thomson Reuters said one million professionals across 107 countries and territories currently rely on CoCounsel across its product lines.
