Nomad Power gets UL 9540 certification for 1 MW mobile storage unit
Nomad Power Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq: NMAD) announced that its 1 MW / 2 MWh Traveler battery energy storage system has received UL 9540 certification, according to a press release from the Boca Raton, Florida-based company.
The certified transportable system has been delivered to Missanabie Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario, Canada, where it will support emergency preparedness and provide power for critical community infrastructure. The community experiences recurring spring flooding that can threaten local infrastructure.
"Achieving UL9540 certification is a critical milestone for NOMAD," said Geordan Pursglove, CEO of Nomad Power Solutions. "It removes a barrier to broader market adoption and enables us to deploy our Traveler systems at scale."
UL 9540 certification confirms that the system has been evaluated against applicable safety requirements for energy storage systems and equipment. The Traveler system can respond to changes in electrical load in approximately 8 milliseconds and is designed to be relocated between sites as needs change.
Jason Gauthier, Chief of Missanabie Cree First Nation, said the system "represents an important investment in the safety and resilience of our community," adding that it would support residents during severe weather while reducing reliance on diesel-powered equipment.
The company noted that approximately 250 off-grid Canadian communities use diesel as their primary power source, consuming an estimated 90 to 120 million liters of diesel annually, based on government and industry estimates.
Nomad states its transportable platform is designed to reduce certain construction and site requirements compared to permanent energy infrastructure, allowing deployment in hours or days. The company says intended applications include emergency preparedness, utility peak-shaving, renewable energy integration, and backup power for critical facilities and data centers across North America.
