IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) reported $47 million in worldwide receipts for the weekend, driven by a $13 million opening weekend for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in China, according to a company press release.

The film earned $19.3 million total in its IMAX China debut, including $6.3 million from sneak preview grosses. IMAX screens accounted for 53% of the film's overall box office in China while representing 1% of total screens in the market. The company said IMAX screens captured 94% of the film's sneak preview grosses in China, with most screenings at or near capacity.

The weekend results brought The Odyssey's cumulative worldwide IMAX gross to $346.4 million, with IMAX screens accounting for 26% of the film's total global box office. Outside China, the film added $16 million internationally and $8 million in North America over the weekend. The film is scheduled to continue its IMAX run through at least mid-September.

The Odyssey is the first theatrical release shot entirely with IMAX Film Cameras. Director Christopher Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema collaborated with IMAX to develop a next-generation IMAX Film Camera called The Keighley, along with a new sound blimp. A total of 2.1 million feet of IMAX film was shot during production.

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said in a statement: "We came just shy of our fifth consecutive weekend of $50 million-plus at the global box office; prior to 2026, we've never had more than one $50 million weekend in an entire year."

Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Brand New Day contributed $4.8 million in North America and select international markets over the weekend, bringing its cumulative IMAX total to $53 million. Once Upon a Time in the Middle East, directed by Muye Wen, debuted in China with $2.1 million in IMAX box office.

IMAX operates 1,876 systems across 91 countries and territories as of June 30, 2026. Its China subsidiary trades on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under stock code "1970."
