Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced a $59 million investment to expand its Vulcraft manufacturing facility in St. Joe, Indiana, adding steel grating production capabilities to the site.

The expansion is expected to create 20 full-time jobs, adding to the more than 300 employees currently at the facility. Nucor said it employs more than 2,600 workers across more than a dozen locations in Indiana.

John Hollatz, Executive Vice President of Fabricated Construction Products, said in a statement: "Vulcraft is where Nucor got its start in the steel industry, and it remains an important part of our growth today."

The investment marks Nucor's fourth major capital commitment in Indiana in recent years. Previous investments include a $290 million modernization of its sheet mill in Crawfordsville in 2022, a $115 million utility infrastructure production facility announced in 2023, and a $28.5 million insulated metal panel facility in Waterloo that began operations in 2021. Those investments collectively created approximately 300 jobs in the state.

Nucor acquired Vulcraft in 1962. The St. Joe facility opened in 1972 and is one of nine Vulcraft locations operating across North America. Vulcraft produces open-web steel joists, joist girders, and steel decking used primarily in nonresidential construction, with an annual joist and deck production capacity of approximately 1.2 million tons.
