American Express adds virtual card tools for U.S. business customers
American Express (NYSE: AXP) announced new virtual card capabilities for U.S. commercial customers, expanding access through its existing software platform and a partnership with payment technology firm Conferma.
Corporate customers can now create and manage virtual cards within the company's @ Work platform, which is used to oversee corporate card programs. The tool allows businesses to set custom spending limits, timeframes, and merchant category restrictions for virtual cards issued to employees, contractors, and other authorized users.
Customers using the American Express Business Travel Account with Virtual Payments can now also create virtual cards through the Conferma mobile app. The app supports on-the-go expenses such as meals, car rentals, and rideshares incurred during business travel. The integration includes multi-level approval workflows, digital receipt capture, and customizable reporting.
"Businesses want to simplify how they pay for things while maintaining control and visibility into spending across employee expenses, supplier payments and business travel," said Eva Reda, Executive Vice President, Global Commercial Services Products at American Express. "Virtual cards can help solve many of these challenges, which is why we're making it easier for customers to create and manage them in the software and digital wallets they're already using."
Virtual cards in @ Work are currently available to select U.S.-based American Express Corporate Program customers, with broader availability planned. The Conferma integration is available to U.S.-based Business Travel Account customers and requires enrollment.
