CGI (NYSE: GIB) released findings from its annual Voice of Our Clients research, based on discussions with business and technology executives across the United States, according to a company statement.

The research found that generative AI implementation among U.S. organizations has increased by 37 percentage points over the past two years, with 58% of organizations applying AI to core business and operational processes. Despite this growth, only 36% of organizations have an enterprise-wide AI strategy, and 18% extend that strategy to their broader ecosystem.

Legacy systems remain a significant obstacle, with 45% of executives saying they hinder digital and AI initiatives. Only 23% of respondents rate their operating models as highly agile, while cost pressure is identified as the top business constraint.

Additional findings show that 64% of U.S. organizations report measuring outcomes from AI implementations, compared with 51% globally. Technology and digital acceleration was cited as the most impactful macro trend by 70% of executives, while 40% are prioritizing data sovereignty and localization strategies amid geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

On data strategy, 51% of organizations report having a holistic enterprise data strategy, though only 33% extend it across partner ecosystems. Security, cyber risk mitigation, and cost management are identified as the top drivers of cloud adoption.

"Organizations are moving quickly from AI exploration to implementation and measurable outcomes," said Vijay Srinivasan, President of U.S. Commercial and State Government operations at CGI. "The next phase of transformation will depend on strengthening the data, technology and operating foundations required to scale AI and deliver lasting business value."

The research also notes that federal government leaders are shifting focus toward modernizing legacy environments and strengthening data infrastructure to support AI adoption. Application modernization and cloud migration are identified as top priorities for the next two years.
