Investing.com -- Power production across the continental United States reached 99,864 gigawatt hours during the week that ended on August 8, marking a 7.04% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Edison Electric Institute on Wednesday.

The weekly output fell 0.4% from the prior week's production of 100,254 GWh, the trade group reported.

All nine U.S. geographic regions monitored by the organization showed year-over-year growth. New England led the gains with a 26.9% increase, while the Mid-Atlantic region followed with a 16.4% rise.

The West Central and Central industrial regions recorded the smallest growth rates at 0.3% and 0.4%, respectively.

For the 52-week period, total U.S. power output reached 4,357,109 GWh, representing a 2.3% increase from the previous 12-month period, the EEI stated.
