Charles Schwab launches single stock futures for 50+ U.S. stocks

August 12, 2026 8:30 AM

Charles Schwab Futures & Forex has launched single stock futures contracts for more than 50 U.S. stocks, making the product available on its thinkorswim trading platforms and traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), according to a company statement.

Each standard contract represents 100 shares of the underlying stock and is cash-settled, meaning no physical share delivery is required. The contracts are based on the price movement of an individual company at a set future date.

The product allows eligible clients to take long or short positions without stock borrow fees or short-sale restrictions, and to trade outside of standard market hours. Schwab says the contracts require less initial capital than outright stock ownership.

James Kostulias, Managing Director and Head of Trading Services at Charles Schwab, said in the statement: "With Index Futures already representing about 75% of our futures trading volume, we see strong demand for this next evolution in futures trading, including from traders who have historically traded stocks."

The contracts cover stocks included in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100. Schwab noted that trading privileges are subject to review and approval, and that not all clients will qualify. The company also cautioned that futures are leveraged products that can result in losses greater than the initial investment.

Charles Schwab (NYSE: SCHW) reported $13.08 trillion in total client assets and 11.9 million daily average trades in Q2 2026.
