Space42 and Leonardo DRS sign MoU for UAE national security systems
Space42 and Leonardo DRS (Nasdaq: DRS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate their respective defense and satellite technologies for national security applications in the United Arab Emirates, according to a press release issued Aug. 12, 2026.
Under the agreement, Leonardo DRS will contribute its C5ISR mission systems expertise, while Space42 will provide satellite communications and Beyond Line of Sight connectivity. The two companies said they will explore joint design and integration of mission capabilities for the UAE.
Ahmed AlMehrzi, Chief Commercial Officer – Government at Space42, said the partnership combines "sovereign satellite infrastructure and AI-enabled communications capabilities with Leonardo DRS's advanced mission systems" to support the UAE's national security ecosystem.
Denny Crumley, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Electronics business unit, said the MoU reflects the company's commitment to supporting UAE national security priorities and its broader effort to grow international business with strategic partners.
Space42 was formed in 2024 through the merger of Bayanat and Yahsat and operates two business units: Space Services and Smart Solutions. Leonardo DRS provides defense technologies including tactical computing, smart displays, and integrated C4/C5/C6ISR solutions to the U.S. military and allied forces.
