APEI to build AI student platform with Salesforce starting in 2027

August 11, 2026 4:32 PM

American Public Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: APEI) announced it is developing an AI-powered Student Lifecycle Platform using Salesforce technology for its American Public University System, which includes American Military University, American Public University, Rasmussen University, and Hondros College of Nursing.

The platform is being built on Salesforce's next-generation student information system, along with Data 360 and Agentforce. According to the company, the system is designed to unify admissions, financial aid, advising, tutoring, and career services into a single connected experience, with AI agents intended to support both students and staff.

The rollout is expected to begin with Rasmussen University and Hondros College of Nursing in Q1 2027, starting with student support and admissions functions. The company said it anticipates completing the rollout across all four academic units through 2027 and into the first half of 2028.

Angela Selden, President and Chief Executive Officer of APEI and Chancellor of the American Public University System, said the collaboration aims to create "an experience that is simpler, more personal and more responsive to every learner's unique journey."

James Kenigsberg, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer of APEI, said the platform is designed to "sense what learners need, adapt to where they are and remove unnecessary friction before it becomes a barrier."

The platform includes Salesforce's Trust Layer, which the company says provides data masking, zero-data retention, and toxicity detection features. The American Public University System serves approximately 109,000 students and more than 250,000 alumni worldwide as of March 31, 2026.
