Nasdaq short interest falls to 22.6 billion shares at July 31 settlement
Nasdaq (NASDAQ: NDAQ) reported that total short interest across all 5,488 Nasdaq securities stood at 22,597,854,884 shares as of the July 31, 2026 settlement date, down from 22,902,282,625 shares across 5,490 issues at the prior settlement date of July 15, 2026, according to a company statement.
The combined short interest represents an average of 2.81 days of average daily volume, compared with 2.63 days for the prior reporting period.
On the Nasdaq Global Market, short interest in 3,835 securities totaled 18,151,604,493 shares, down from 18,406,468,581 shares in 3,836 securities at the previous settlement date. The days-to-cover ratio for the Global Market rose to 3.17 days from 3.07 days.
On the Nasdaq Capital Market, short interest in 1,653 securities totaled 4,446,250,391 shares, compared with 4,495,814,044 shares in 1,654 securities for the prior period. The average daily volume figure was 1.92 days, up from 1.65 days in the previous reporting period.
