CME Group and Silicon Data to launch GPU compute futures in October
CME Group (NASDAQ: CME) and Silicon Data announced plans to launch two compute futures contracts on October 5, 2026, pending regulatory review, according to a press release from the companies.
The contracts — Silicon Data H100 Rental Index Futures and Silicon Data B200 Rental Index Futures — will track indexes measuring hourly GPU rental costs published by Silicon Data. Each contract will represent one month's worth of rental costs for the Nvidia H100 and Nvidia Blackwell B200 chips, respectively. The contracts will be listed under NYMEX rules.
Silicon Data, which is backed by trading firm DRW, publishes GPU market intelligence and benchmarking data. The new futures are intended to allow companies, including AI developers and cloud providers, to hedge against fluctuations in GPU rental prices.
"Compute has become the currency of the AI age, and this innovative market will bring transparency to the current and future costs that AI builders and hyperscalers need to hedge as they grow," said Pete Keavey, Global Head of Energy and Environmental Products at CME Group.
Carmen Li, Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Data, said the contracts would provide a public reference price for GPU compute capacity. "For years, two companies buying the exact same GPU capacity could pay wildly different prices with no way to know who got the better deal," Li said.
