CME Group to launch 24/7 silver futures trading in September
CME Group (NASDAQ: CME) announced it will extend 24/7 trading to its 100-Ounce Silver futures contract starting September 11, 2026, pending regulatory review.
The move follows the July 24, 2026, launch of round-the-clock trading in 1-Ounce Gold futures, which has seen over 53,000 contracts traded during weekend sessions, representing approximately $219 million in notional value.
The 100-Ounce Silver futures contract launched in February 2026 and recorded an average daily volume of 17,800 contracts in the first half of 2026. CME Group reported $50 billion in average notional value traded daily across its silver futures during that period.
CME Group's metals business recorded 1.3 million contracts traded daily in the first half of 2026, a 55% increase year-on-year, which the company attributed to precious metals activity.
The 100-Ounce Silver futures contract is financially settled based on the daily settlement price of the COMEX 5,000-Ounce Silver futures contract and is listed under COMEX rules.
"Silver bridges the precious and industrial metals worlds, acting as a diversifier for investors that responds to both macroeconomic news and real-world demand," said Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals at CME Group. "Our retail clients have shown a strong appetite for right-sized gold futures available whenever they need them, so we are now extending that same 24/7 access to help participants manage risk and pursue opportunities in silver."
