Microchip releases smaller Rev 2.0 PolarFire FPGA sensor bridge

Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has released Revision 2.0 of its PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge, a production-ready board designed for sensor integration using Nvidia Holoscan Sensor Bridge technology.

According to the company, the updated board is 60% smaller than its predecessor, supports up to four cameras — twice the number supported by the first generation — and is USB-C powered. Microchip said the board is also offered at a lower price than the original.

The board supports 10Gb Ethernet-based sensor connectivity and is compatible with Nvidia Jetson camera connectors. It includes on-board optical latency measurement circuitry designed to support end-to-end latency validation using Nvidia's Latency Display Analysis Tool.

The design features an FPGA Mezzanine Card expansion connector and supports interfaces including MIPI CSI-2, I²C, UART and GPIO. It is also capable of supporting video interfaces such as SLVS-EC 2.0, 12G-SDI, HDMI and DisplayPort without requiring a redesign of the core platform.

"Developers want to spend their time building high-value edge AI applications, not stitching together proprietary sensor interfaces," said Shakeel Peera, vice president of Microchip's FPGA business unit.

The offering includes cameras, cables, a reference design, board schematics and design collateral. It integrates Microchip's MCP16701 power management IC and is supported by the Libero SoC Design Suite. The board is also compatible with the Nvidia Holoscan SDK.

Microchip said the Rev 2.0 board targets medical, industrial and humanoid robotics applications. It is available for purchase directly from Microchip or through authorized distributors.
