ACV Auctions launches VIPER vehicle scanning tool nationwide

August 10, 2026 4:30 PM

ACV Auctions (NYSE: ACVA) announced the nationwide availability of its VIPER automated vehicle scanning system, designed to help car dealerships acquire used vehicles directly from their service lanes.

VIPER combines automated vehicle imaging, VIN-level pricing, and AI-powered condition analysis to generate vehicle appraisals and consumer purchase offers. According to the company, the system completes an exterior and undercarriage condition assessment in under 60 seconds and requires no major construction for installation, with setup completed in a few hours.

Each scan produces high-quality photos, damage detection data, tire tread measurements, and pricing insights. The system also sends alerts to sales teams when a scanned vehicle meets a dealership's buying criteria, and can deliver purchase offers to customers via text message. Appraisals are automatically created within ACV's MAX platform.

ACV states the system is built on more than one million vehicle inspections annually, 50 million vehicle images captured per year, and over 250 condition data points collected per vehicle.

"Every vehicle that enters the service lane is an opportunity to strengthen a dealership's inventory pipeline," said Vikas Mehta, Chief Operating Officer at ACV. "VIPER removes the guesswork by helping dealers identify the right vehicles, generate competitive offers backed by real data instantly, and engage customers before they leave the dealership."

Rob Patel, Director of Variable and Internal Fixed Operations at Plaza Auto Mall in Brooklyn, N.Y., said in a statement: "Instead of relying on someone to notice the right vehicle at the right time, we're now identifying acquisition opportunities across every service visit."

The tire tread analysis feature also flags potential upsell opportunities for service advisors, and condition records with timestamps can be used to address service-related damage claims.

ACV cited industry data suggesting dealerships service an average of 1,400 vehicles per month, with over 300 million consumer service visits occurring industry-wide each year.
