Morgan Stanley tracks US drug market prescriptions for week ending July 31

Investing.com -- Morgan Stanley released its weekly analysis of US prescription drug market data for the week ending July 31, showing total prescription year-over-year growth of 1.5% compared to 2.0% the previous week and 1.3% over the past 12 weeks.

The rolling 4-week total prescription year-over-year change was -0.2%, while the rolling 12-week total prescription year-over-year change was 1.3%. Extended unit weekly year-over-year growth was 1.1%, below total prescription year-over-year growth. Sequential weekly total prescription growth was -0.5% compared to -0.4% the week before.

Bristol-Myers Squibb's (NYSE: BMY) Cobenfy, approved for schizophrenia on September 26, 2024, recorded approximately 3,370 scripts for the week versus approximately 3,290 the previous week. Morgan Stanley estimates that to achieve 2026 consensus expectations of $271 million, Cobenfy total prescriptions need to reach approximately 186,000, assuming a net price of around $1,450.

Gilead Sciences' (NASDAQ: GILD) Yeztugo, approved on June 18, 2025, reported total prescriptions of approximately 1,890 for the week versus approximately 1,880 the previous week. Injectable prescriptions were approximately 1,160 versus approximately 1,090 the previous week. The drug has a persistence rate above 70% and has secured 95% payor coverage. Morgan Stanley estimates Yeztugo US sales of $1,049 million versus consensus of $988 million.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals' (NASDAQ: VRTX) Journavx, approved for acute pain on January 30, 2025, recorded approximately 26,970 scripts for the week versus approximately 26,450 the previous week. The company notes that hospital scripts are not captured by IQVIA data, with a hospital to retail mix of 45% to 55% in 2025.

Johnson & Johnson's (NYSE: JNJ) Icotyde, approved for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis on March 18, 2026, reported approximately 880 prescriptions for the week versus approximately 870 the previous week. Management indicated more than 18,000 prescriptions written for approximately 11,000 patients from approximately 6,000 unique prescribers. Commercial payer coverage now exceeds 50%.

For biosimilars, Biocon's Yesintek holds approximately 78% share and Amgen's (NASDAQ: AMGN) Wezlana has approximately 19% share for Stelara biosimilars. Sandoz's Jubbonti has approximately 26% total prescription share for Prolia biosimilars, while Celltrion's Stoboclo has approximately 14% versus branded Prolia share at approximately 53%.
