ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) announced that Andy O'Brien will succeed Ryan Lance as president and chief executive officer, effective Sept. 1, 2026, according to a company statement.

Lance, who has served as president and CEO for 14 years and has been with the company for more than 40 years, will transition to the role of executive chair of the board of directors. O'Brien will join the board upon his appointment.

Konnie Haynes-Welsh, currently vice president of Finance and Controller, will be appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer, also effective Sept. 1, 2026.

O'Brien joined Conoco in 1997 and has held finance, planning, and strategy roles across the company. He became a member of the executive leadership team in 2022, overseeing the company's Alaska and international businesses, commercial, LNG, finance, corporate strategy, investor relations, and mergers and acquisitions. He currently serves as chief financial officer and executive vice president of Strategy and Commercial.

Haynes-Welsh joined ConocoPhillips in 2012, holding roles in corporate strategy, compliance, and the Lower 48 segment, and later served as treasurer before her current position. Prior to joining ConocoPhillips, she held roles with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Mariner Energy.

Lead independent director Robert Niblock said in the statement: "He is the right person to lead our company into its next phase. He brings a deep knowledge of our business, a strong track record of execution and has played a key role in making ConocoPhillips successful."
