Veeco receives order for LUMINA+ MOCVD system for InP lasers
Veeco Instruments Inc. (NASDAQ: VECO) announced it received an order from an unnamed global optical and photonic technology company for its LUMINA®+ Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) system, to be used in manufacturing indium phosphide (InP) lasers for datacom applications.
The LUMINA+ system is designed for arsenide and phosphide epitaxial production. According to Veeco, the system features the largest batch size in its category and is built on the company's TurboDisc® technology, which the company says enables high throughput and lower cost per wafer. The system supports InP wafers of varying sizes.
"Following a series of recent orders and qualifications, this order extends the strong position of our LUMINA+ system for high-volume As/P production," said Anil Vijayendran, Vice President of MOCVD Products at Veeco.
InP lasers are a key component in optical transceivers, which convert electrical signals to optical signals and are used in data center connectivity. According to market research firm LightCounting, optical transceiver and related product sales are expected to reach $39 billion in 2026, a 53% increase from 2025.
