August 4, 2026 8:30 AM

Veru Inc. (NASDAQ: VERU) announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a Notice of Allowance for a patent application covering methods of use for its drug enobosarm in combination with semaglutide for weight loss purposes.

The allowed patent application is titled "Compositions Comprising Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator Compounds in Combination with Weight Loss Drugs and Uses Thereof for Quality Weight Loss." When issued, the patent is expected to provide protection until at least October 3, 2044, before any patent term adjustment or extension.

The allowed claims cover treatment regimens including concurrent use of enobosarm with semaglutide, adding enobosarm to existing semaglutide therapy, and enobosarm use as monotherapy after semaglutide is discontinued. The claims address preservation of lean and muscle mass, fat mass reduction, physical function, bone preservation, insulin resistance, and prevention of weight regain following discontinuation of semaglutide.

The notice adds to Veru's existing issued enobosarm polymorph composition of matter patents and other pending patent applications. The company also holds pending applications directed to an oral modified-release enobosarm formulation that, if issued, would provide protection until at least May 2046, according to the company's statement.

Veru's Phase 2b PLATEAU clinical trial, which is fully enrolled, is evaluating enobosarm 3mg in approximately 200 patients aged 65 and older with obesity who are initiating semaglutide treatment. An interim analysis is expected in the first quarter of 2027, with final topline data anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The company previously completed the Phase 2b QUALITY clinical study, which it described as positive, evaluating enobosarm in 168 older patients receiving semaglutide. In June 2026, Veru announced a clinical supply agreement with Novo Nordisk for the PLATEAU study.
