Descartes launches AI tool for free trade agreement compliance

August 4, 2026 6:46 AM

Descartes Systems Group (Nasdaq: DSGX) has introduced an AI-enabled Free Trade Intelligence (FTI) solution designed to help manufacturers, importers and exporters qualify goods for preferential tariff treatment and manage trade compliance, according to a company statement.

The solution, called Descartes FTI AI, combines rules-of-origin analysis, regional value content calculations, tariff shift logic, supplier declaration management and automated recommendations in a single workflow. It draws on a library of rules of origin covering more than 250 trade regimes globally.

The platform analyzes bills of materials, tariff classifications, rules of origin and supplier declarations using AI, while retaining qualification logic for compliance decisions. It integrates with Descartes' Global Trade Intelligence suite and enterprise resource planning environments.

The solution is aimed at organizations whose ERP systems lack comprehensive global trade management capabilities and that currently rely on spreadsheets or manual processes to manage free trade agreement eligibility.

"Free trade agreement eligibility can unlock significant duty savings, but qualification remains one of the most complex and resource-intensive areas of compliance," said Brian Hodgson, General Manager, Global Trade Intelligence at Descartes.

Key features include scenario modeling for evaluating sourcing alternatives, automatic requalification tracking for supplier declarations, and documented audit trails covering calculations and tariff shift logic.

"By combining AI with trusted regulatory expertise and transparent decision-making, Descartes FTI AI helps customers accelerate complex qualification across multiple agreements," said Ken Wood, EVP of Product Management at Descartes.
