SEALSQ highlights crypto-agile hardware amid AI cryptanalysis research

SEALSQ Corp (NASDAQ: LAES) issued a statement highlighting what it describes as the growing importance of hardware-based crypto-agility, citing recent research into artificial intelligence-assisted cryptanalysis that the company says could accelerate the identification of weaknesses in cryptographic algorithms.

The company referenced research discussed by PostQuantum.com examining AI-assisted cryptanalysis involving HAWK, a post-quantum signature candidate, and advances in attacks against reduced-round AES-128. SEALSQ noted that these findings do not demonstrate a break of NIST-standardized post-quantum algorithms such as ML-KEM or ML-DSA, nor do they represent a practical break of full 10-round AES-128.

"AI is not breaking post-quantum cryptography today, but it is changing the speed at which cryptographic systems can be analyzed," said Carlos Moreira, CEO of SEALSQ.

The company said its strategy centers on embedding post-quantum security, hardware Roots of Trust, and crypto-agility into semiconductor architectures. Its QS7001 post-quantum secure microcontroller platform is designed around NIST-standardized post-quantum algorithms, including ML-KEM and ML-DSA, and is intended to support secure key storage, trusted device identity, secure boot, cryptographic acceleration, and authenticated firmware updates.

SEALSQ said crypto-agility is particularly relevant for devices with operational lifespans of 10 to 20 or more years, including industrial systems, automotive platforms, smart grids, telecommunications infrastructure, satellites, defense systems, medical equipment, and IoT devices.

The company also stated that quantum computing and AI represent two concurrent challenges to cryptographic security, with quantum computing posing a structural threat to widely deployed public-key cryptography and AI potentially accelerating vulnerability discovery and automated cyberattacks.

Moreira added: "Algorithms will evolve, attacks will evolve and standards will evolve. Our objective at SEALSQ is to anchor that dynamism in trusted silicon, giving customers hardware that can adapt with changing algorithms and requirements."
