Upstart reports $1.4B in July 2026 loan originations
Upstart Holdings (NASDAQ: UPST) reported $1,397.4 million in loan originations for July 2026, equivalent to $51.0 million per origination day, based on 27.4 effective origination days in the month, according to a press release.
The company also published its latest Upstart Macro Index (UMI) reading of 1.50 as of August 3, 2026, up slightly from the July 8, 2026 reading of 1.49. The company described the current reading as the highest level since January 2026. A UMI of 1.50 indicates credit loss conditions approximately 50% above what Upstart models as a normal economic baseline of 1.0. The index has remained above 1.0 since early 2022 and remains below its peak of 1.68, reached in 2024.
The UMI is designed to estimate the macroeconomic impact on credit losses for loans facilitated through Upstart's platform, using the company's personal loan data. Upstart states the index reflects macroeconomic risk assumptions currently factored into its loan pricing and approvals, and offers a directional view of existing loan performance.
The originations data are unaudited and preliminary, subject to completion of the company's financial closing procedures ahead of its quarterly SEC filing.
