AMC sets all-time revenue record on Spider-Man: Brand New Day opening
AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE: AMC) reported its highest total revenue ever for a single weekend, Wednesday through Sunday, driven by the opening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to a company press release.
More than 10.2 million moviegoers attended AMC Theatres in the United States and ODEON Cinemas internationally during the period. The company said the weekend marked its highest-attended weekend of the decade and third highest-attended in company history, both domestically and globally.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to a reported $355 million domestically and $927 million globally, which media reports cited as the second-highest domestic and global opening weekend gross for any film ever. The film debuted Wednesday at ODEON Cinemas internationally and Thursday at domestic AMC theatres.
AMC said admissions revenue set records on each individual day from Thursday through Sunday in the United States. The company also reported record food and beverage revenue for a single weekend, surpassing the previous record set during the opening of Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
Dolby Cinema at AMC recorded its highest-grossing weekend in company history. AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York City operated around-the-clock IMAX 70mm showtimes for The Odyssey for the third consecutive weekend. AMC said it has extended IMAX 70mm engagements of The Odyssey into September at select locations in partnership with IMAX and Universal Pictures.
AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron said in a statement: "In welcoming more than 10.2 million moviegoers around the world, AMC established this weekend a new all-time Company weekend record for admissions revenue and a new all-time Company weekend record for food & beverage revenue."
AMC operates approximately 850 theatres and 9,500 screens globally.
