Investing.com -- Teva Pharmaceutical Industries said today it is seeking guidance from the U.S. government regarding the Trump administration's plan to impose tariffs on generic drugs imported into the United States over the next two years.

CEO Richard Francis said the company needs to understand what the administration aims to achieve with the tariff policy. He spoke after the Israeli drugmaker released its second-quarter financial results.

"We have a good seat at the table" as a "major player in the U.S. healthcare ecosystem," Francis told Reuters.

Francis said Teva is in talks with the U.S. government on the most favored nation issue and its potential impact on the company. "Right now we are in a good position," he said.

The CEO also discussed Teva's June acquisition of Emalex Biosciences for more than $700 million. He expects the deal to be accretive "very fast" but likely not until 2028, following the launch of Emalex's Tourette syndrome drug in 2027.

Francis said biosimilar launches in coming years will be the main growth driver of Teva's generics drugs business.
