Rogers and Prime Video sign 12-year NHL sublicensing deal in Canada
Rogers Communications (NYSE: RCI) and Amazon's Prime Video announced a 12-year sublicensing agreement giving Prime Video exclusive rights to broadcast Wednesday night regular-season NHL games in Canada, beginning with the 2026-2027 season.
Under the agreement, Prime Video will carry at least 26 national regular-season NHL games per season in English and French, with the first game scheduled for Wednesday, September 30. The deal also grants Prime Video exclusive rights to select Stanley Cup Playoff series, including two First Round series and one Second Round series per year. The content will be available to Prime members in Canada at no additional cost.
The sublicensing arrangement stems from Rogers' previously announced 12-year agreement with the NHL for national media rights in Canada, covering the 2026-27 through 2037-38 seasons. Rogers' Sportsnet retains exclusive English-language rights to more than 500 national NHL games per season, including Monday and Saturday nights, along with the majority of Stanley Cup Playoff coverage.
"Our partnership with Prime Video builds on the strong foundation we have established together and reinforces NHL hockey as the most valuable sports content in Canada," said Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers.
"We're thrilled to expand our partnership with the NHL and Rogers in this landmark agreement, which brings even more premium live sports to Prime members in Canada," said Jay Marine, Head of Global Sports at Prime Video.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said Prime Video has been "a valuable addition to the NHL's media lineup in Canada" over the past two years and described the long-term extension as reflecting a shared commitment to serving hockey fans across Canada.
Additional details about on-air talent and production for NHL on Prime are expected to be announced at a later date.
