Greenland Mines Ltd (Nasdaq: GRML) announced that Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada has granted Patent No. CA3,005,398 to its biotech division for a Klotho-based gene therapy platform technology targeting Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.

The patent, titled "Secreted Splicing Variant of Mammal Klotho as a Medicament for Cognition and Memory," covers technology exclusively licensed from researchers at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and collaborating institutions. It includes 42 granted claims related to the secreted Klotho protein, known as s-KL, and its application in treating neurodegenerative diseases through gene therapy.

The 42 claims cover the synthesis of the s-KL protein from the gene, delivery methods, and the protein's utility in treating Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, ALS, dementia with Lewy bodies, multiple sclerosis, and several other conditions.

CEO Dr. Joseph Sinkule stated, "This is great news for us, now that we have issued patents for KLTO-101 in all major markets including the US, China and Europe." The company said the product candidate covered by the Canadian patent, KLTO-101, is scheduled to begin process development and manufacturing in August 2026.

The company also stated that a separate candidate, KLTO-202, targeting ALS, multiple sclerosis, and other neuromuscular disorders, has advanced to the GMP manufacturing stage, with regulatory interactions with the FDA and other authorities expected before the end of 2026.

Greenland Mines operates two divisions: a mining segment focused on projects in Greenland, and a biotech segment advancing Klotho-based therapies.
