July 28, 2026 9:02 AM

Emerson (NYSE: EMR) announced enhancements to its NI Nigel AI software on July 28, expanding the tool's capabilities to include prompt-based code generation within NI LabVIEW and automated test sequence creation in NI TestStand.

According to the company, internal benchmarking across representative engineering workflows found the new capabilities reduce the time and effort required to develop and deploy test systems by up to 50 percent. The enhancements target industries including automotive, electronics, aerospace and defense, and semiconductors.

Nigel AI is also being extended across the broader NI LabVIEW+ Suite, adding AI-driven workflows to NI InstrumentStudio, NI FlexLogger, and NI VeriStand. The expansion covers interactive measurements, sensor-based datalogging, and hardware-in-the-loop test environments.

Ritu Favre, president of Emerson's test and measurement business, said in a statement: "By enabling purpose-built AI to generate code and test sequences within workflows, we're accelerating productivity while ensuring engineers remain in control of validation and decision-making."

Emerson said the system is designed with built-in security and governance features and is aligned with regulatory requirements including the Cyber Resilience Act. The company described the AI as operating directly within structured test workflows and leveraging modular instrumentation, open software systems, and structured data.
