Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra (NYSE: SRE), disclosed that damage was discovered in the refrigerant compressors at its ECA LNG Phase 1 project in Ensenada, Mexico, during planned inspections following the export of the facility's first cargo.

The one-train natural gas liquefaction facility had achieved mechanical completion in December 2025, introduced feed gas in April 2026, and produced its first LNG in June 2026. The plant was shut down for inspections after shipping its first cargo earlier in July, at which point the compressor damage was found.

Sempra Infrastructure said it is extending the project's commissioning process as a result. Subject to the completion of a root cause investigation and remediation work consistent with management expectations, the project is expected to reach substantial completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, with sales under long-term agreements commencing shortly thereafter.

The company said it does not anticipate a reduction in its planned earnings contributions relative to Sempra's segment guidance ranges for 2026 and 2027.

Separately, construction at Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 and Phase 2 in Port Arthur, Texas, continues on time and on budget. Combined, the two phases are expected to add 26 million tonnes per annum of nameplate export capacity. The Port Arthur Pipeline Louisiana Connector has been placed in service, and the associated Louisiana storage project remains on time and on budget.

The company also announced that the planned sale of Ecogas México received unconditional approval from Mexico's Comisión Nacional Antimonopolio. The transaction is expected to close in August and generate approximately $500 million in proceeds.
