Energy Vault breaks ground on AI data center campus in Snyder, Texas
Energy Vault, Inc. (NYSE: NRGV) has begun construction on a powered AI infrastructure campus in Snyder, Texas, where it plans to deploy Crusoe Spark modular data centers for Crusoe Cloud, according to a press release from the company.
The first phase of the project, called "Snyder AI," is designed to deliver 8 megawatts of powered shell capacity, with a second phase targeting expansion to 25 MW. The initial deployment is targeted for commercial operation in the first quarter of 2027. The site has been designed with planned capacity expansion of up to 500 MW.
Energy Vault is purchasing ten Crusoe Spark modular data center units from Crusoe, which Crusoe will then lease back from Energy Vault as powered shell infrastructure. Construction activities currently underway include fiber installation, site preparation, and power infrastructure work.
The campus is designed to include powered land, electrical infrastructure, N+1 redundancy, battery energy storage systems, and modular data center infrastructure. Crusoe Spark units are described as capable of installation and commissioning in weeks, compared to years for traditional data center builds.
"Earlier this year, we announced our commercial agreement with Crusoe. Today, we are building it," said Marco Terruzzin, Chief Commercial and Development Officer of Energy Vault.
Crusoe President and Co-founder Cully Cavness said the project "illustrates the creative business opportunities enabled by vertical integration" and described the Snyder AI site as a model for rapid deployment of modular computing capacity.
