GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) announced plans to modernize its Veresegyház facility in Hungary, which the company describes as its largest Gas Power manufacturing base outside the United States, as the site marks its 25th anniversary.

The modernization includes the development of an on-site solar park, new lean production lines, and a plan to hire more than 80 additional workers over the coming years.

The solar project is being carried out in phases. The first phase involved the installation of a 2 MW solar car canopy covering more than 500 parking spaces. The second phase, currently underway, includes 14.5 MW of photovoltaic panels and a 40 MWh battery storage system, comprising more than 21,000 panels spread across 15 hectares. Grid connection is expected by autumn 2025.

Once fully operational, the system is expected to cover approximately 50% of the site's current annual electricity consumption of 33 GWh with zero-emission renewable energy.

GE Vernova said it invested $24.5 million in the facility last year, supported in part by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA). The investment funded the installation of new lean production lines, high-performance precision machinery, and five advanced coating booths equipped with vacuum furnaces.

The facility specializes in manufacturing and repairing gas turbine components, with capabilities including robotic welding and thermal coatings. The company said it added approximately 100 employees at the site last year and is currently hiring up to 80 more, including machinists, welders, fitters, and assembly operators.

GE Vernova also operates in Hungary through a facility in Százhalombatta and a Budapest office supporting its Power, Electrification, and Wind businesses.
