GE Aerospace (NYSE: GE) and CFM International announced commitments for approximately 1,800 engines at the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, including a record order from IndiGo for more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines to power 510 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, according to a company press release.

CFM International is a 50/50 joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines. The IndiGo agreement, structured as a memorandum of understanding, would represent the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines and a record for CFM.

GE Aerospace also announced GEnx-1B engine selections by Philippine Airlines for 15 Boeing 787-10 aircraft and by aircraft leasing company AerCap for 15 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The GEnx-1B engine surpassed 50 million flight hours in just over 14 years.

On the certification front, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency certified the LEAP-1B high-pressure turbine durability kit, which is designed to double time on wing in hot and harsh operating environments. Initial certification of the LEAP-1B reverse bleed system was also secured.

GE Aerospace announced the completion of the first hybrid electric flight above 30,000 feet, conducted in collaboration with NASA, BETA Technologies, and Boeing. The company also highlighted its collaboration with BETA Technologies on the MV250, an autonomous hybrid-electric VTOL aircraft designed for military logistics missions.

CFM reported completing approximately 500 test campaigns and more than 3,000 endurance cycles on its RISE Open Fan technology demonstration program. Airbus and CFM revealed the livery for an A380 aircraft intended to support Open Fan flight testing later this decade.

In defense, GE Aerospace signed a memorandum of understanding with Magellan Aerospace to explore F414 engine sustainment capabilities in Canada for the Saab Gripen. Shield AI and GE Aerospace announced successful engine light-off testing on the F110 engine for Shield AI's X-BAT aircraft. GE Aerospace and Turkish Technic also signed an agreement to expand MRO support for avionics components in Türkiye.
