Burford Capital (NYSE: BUR) disclosed that an ICC International Court of Arbitration tribunal issued an award exceeding $600 million in favor of one of the company's counterparties in a case related to a Cameroon mining matter.

If the award were paid in full, Burford said its entitlement would be more than AUD$250 million, with the return accruing entirely to its balance sheet and no participation by its investment funds.

The company cautioned that the award does not represent cash proceeds received and that the case remains subject to significant litigation and collection risks, including potential annulment, set-aside proceedings, and enforcement challenges in other jurisdictions. Burford noted that litigation matters frequently resolve for amounts materially below the face value of an award, and the parties could agree to settle for considerably less.

The company also stated that its ultimate entitlement, if any, would depend on the terms of its financing agreement and applicable fees, expenses, taxes, and other deductions. Burford added that it could recover substantially less than the stated amount or, in certain circumstances, incur a total loss.

Burford said it issued the statement in light of its counterparty's expected public announcement and noted that investors should not view the release as altering its general approach to disclosing individual matters publicly.
